It's Harvest Season in the Capital Region

It’s Harvest Season and October is a busy month for farmers in the Capital Region.  Whether it be harvesting apples, pumpkins and winter squash or making fresh apple cider, farmers are busy providing great products and fall activities for you and your family.  Visit an apple orchard or pumpkin patch to pick delicious locally grown apples and that perfect pumpkin.  Did you know that New York State grows more apple varieties than any other state?  Visit  www.nyapplecountry.com to discover the many varieties grown and where to find them.  Our apple producers are also busy making sweet and hard cider from their harvest.  Hard cider is making a comeback in New York State with over 50 hard cider producers including several in the Capital Region.

If you’re looking for that perfect pumpkin for your Halloween jack-o-lantern or favorite pumpkin pie recipe, plan a trip to a farm near you.  Many farmers have both Halloween and pie pumpkins for sale as well as a variety of winter squash and gourds.  Some farms offer wagon rides to the pumpkin patch to pick-your-own and corn mazes to find your way through.  Other attractions may include petting zoos, tunnel slides, jumping pillows, peddle karts and much more.  To find a farm near you, visit www.harvestconnection-ny.com.
